“Golden Harmony”: A Multi-Tiered Staircase Chandelier for a Bahraini Private Villa

A Multi-Tiered Staircase Chandelier for a Bahraini Private Villa

1.Project Overview

Located in the upscale district of Manama, Bahrain, this private residence showcases a stunning blend of classical Arabian architecture and modern luxury. The focal point of the interior is a grand double-height staircase clad in polished marble, capped with an intricate, hand-carved gypsum ceiling. The client required a statement lighting fixture that could bridge the vast vertical distance between the ceiling and the ground floor while complementing the warm, golden hues of the interior decor.

2.The Challenge

The unique architectural structure presented three distinct challenges:
Vertical Scale & Proportion: The 8-meter high void made standard chandeliers look insignificant. The fixture needed substantial height to visually connect the two floors without appearing too heavy or bulky.
Glare Management on Stone: With floor-to-ceiling marble and polished stairs, “naked” crystal bulbs would create dizzying reflections and harsh glare, which is dangerous for a staircase setting.
Visual Weight: A heavy metal chandelier would block the view of the exquisite ceiling carvings. The design needed to be voluminous yet visually “light” and transparent.

3.The Tikanna Solution

We engineered a custom “Transparent Cascade” fixture that prioritizes elegance and light diffusion:
Elongated Multi-Tier Design: We created a 4-tier vertical structure using curved glass arms. This elongated shape draws the eye upward, celebrating the height of the room rather than hiding it.
Linen Fabric Shades: To solve the glare issue, we outfitted every light source with a tailored, cream-colored linen shade. These shades soften the output into a warm, ambient glow that enhances the natural grain of the marble without causing eye strain.
Glass Body Construction: Instead of a solid metal body, we utilized high-clarity blown glass for the central column and arms. This transparency allows the intricate ceiling details to remain visible through the chandelier, maintaining an airy, open feel.

4.The Result

The installed chandelier acts as a glowing “spine” for the villa, seamlessly uniting the upper and lower levels. The client was particularly impressed by how the fabric shades created a “Golden Hour” effect on the staircase, making the space feel majestic yet inviting. It confirms Tikanna’s expertise in handling complex spatial voids with grace and precision.
