1.Project Overview

Located in the vibrant heart of Singapore’s Marina Bay, this prestigious commercial complex features a dedicated high-ceiling Art Space & Event Hall. The architecture embraces a modern industrial aesthetic with raw concrete walls and floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the iconic Marina Bay Sands and the waterfront. The client sought a centerpiece that would serve not just as lighting, but as a monumental art sculpture reflecting Singapore’s identity as a “Garden City” surrounded by water.

2.The Challenge

Designing for this distinctive venue posed three key challenges:
Competing with the View: The backdrop is one of the world’s most famous skylines. The fixture needed to be visually striking enough to hold its own without blocking or clashing with the panoramic city view.
Cold Interior Acoustics & Visuals: The extensive use of concrete and stone created a “cold” and echo-prone environment. The lighting needed to introduce fluidity, color, and softness to break the rigid industrial lines.
Thematic Integration: The client specifically requested a design that incorporated “Blue” to represent the ocean, but feared that colored glass might look cheap or dated if not executed with high artistry.

3.The Tikanna Solution

Tikanna Lighting conceptualized “The Frozen Rain,” a 6-meter tall cascading installation that mimics a tropical downpour merging with the sea:
Gradient Color Palette: We curated a custom gradient of hand-blown glass drops. Starting with crystal clear at the top to catch the sunlight, transitioning into soft turquoise, and ending in deep cerulean blue at the bottom. This visually anchors the light to the ground while keeping the top airy.
Organic Fluidity: Unlike rigid geometric chandeliers, we arranged the thousands of glass droplets in a loose, spiraling formation. This organic shape contrasts beautifully with the square concrete pillars, adding a sense of movement and life to the static room.
Refractive Brilliance: We used high-refractive glass that interacts with both the internal LED sources and the natural daylight entering from the bay. The result is a shimmering effect on the floor that resembles sunlight dancing on the ocean surface.

4.The Result

The “Azure Symphony” has become the defining visual icon of the complex. Visitors are mesmerized by the interplay of light and color, frequently stopping to photograph the “waterfall of light” against the Singapore skyline. The client praised Tikanna for successfully bringing the “spirit of the ocean” indoors, transforming a cold concrete hall into a vibrant, artistic destination.
