1.Project Overview
Located in the prestigious Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), this private Art Foundation serves as a cultural hub for the Middle East’s elite. The main atrium is a breathtaking triple-height space, featuring a reflective chrome ceiling and floor-to-ceiling arched windows that frame the iconic Dubai skyline. The client sought a lighting installation that would not merely illuminate the hall but act as a piece of “suspended sculpture,” rivaling the contemporary masterpieces displayed on the walls.
2.The Challenge
The architectural grandeur posed three specific engineering and aesthetic challenges:
** The Mirrored Ceiling Effect:** The ceiling is clad in polished stainless steel. This meant the top of the chandelier would be just as visible as the bottom. Standard fixtures with messy wiring or ugly mounting plates on top were strictly forbidden; the finish had to be 360-degree perfect.
Structural Weightlessness: Despite the fixture’s massive scale (over 12 meters in length), the client wanted it to look like a floating silk ribbon caught in a breeze. Heavy chains or thick support rods would ruin the illusion of fluidity.
High-Temperature & Sunlight: The atrium receives intense direct sunlight from the desert sun. The materials needed to be UV-resistant and heat-stable to prevent yellowing or warping over time.
3.The Tikanna Solution
We engineered the “Infinity Ribbon,” a custom spiraling structure that defies gravity:
Seamless Interlocking Modules: To achieve the continuous “ribbon” look without visible seams, we manufactured the fixture in modular sections that interlock internally. The frame is clad in thousands of precision-cut K9 crystal prisms, which hide the internal steel skeleton completely.
Invisible Suspension Technology: We utilized ultra-thin, high-tensile aircraft cables strategically placed at the curves of the ribbon. Combined with the mirrored ceiling, the cables become nearly invisible, enhancing the effect that the light is dancing in mid-air.
Top-Side Finishing: Recognizing the mirrored ceiling, we applied a custom decorative crystal cover to the top surface of the light strips as well. When looking up, the reflection shows a continuous loop of crystal, creating an infinite visual extension.
4.The Result
The installed chandelier is a triumph of engineering and art. It draws the eye from the mirrored ceiling down to the marble floor, unifying the vast vertical space. The client describes it as “visual poetry,” noting that the crystal prisms refract the sunlight during the day and glow like liquid gold at night. It perfectly captures the spirit of modern Dubai—ambitious, luxurious, and artistic.
