Commissioned by a leading Qatari hospitality group, Tikanna Lighting was tasked with creating a centerpiece for the grand lobby of their new seafront hotel in Doha. The client required a lighting installation that was not just functional, but a spectacular piece of art reflecting the hotel’s coastal location. The result is “Azure Wave,” a breathtaking, large-scale sculpture made of blue tempered glass that dominates the 12-meter high atrium.

The primary challenge was translating the designer’s fluid, abstract concept of “ocean waves” into a structurally sound reality. The sheer scale of the installation (spanning over 6 meters) meant that standard materials were inadequate. Furthermore, the extreme height of the lobby required a robust suspension system that could support the substantial weight of the glass while remaining visually unobtrusive, ensuring the sculpture appeared to “float.”

To achieve this artistic vision safely and effectively, Tikanna’s engineering team developed a specialized approach:

Material Innovation: We utilized custom-tinted blue tempered glass rods, manually bent and woven to create a dynamic, translucent texture that mimics flowing water. The tempering process ensures maximum durability and safety.

Structural Engineering: A concealed, high-strength steel internal frame was designed to hold the glass form. This was coupled with an aircraft-grade cable suspension system, engineered to handle 5 times the static load for ultimate safety.

Integrated Lighting: Hidden LED strips were integrated within the structure to illuminate the blue glass from within, creating a soft, mesmerizing glow that changes ambience from day to night.

Upon completion, the “Azure Wave” chandelier became an instant icon of the hotel. It successfully transforms the vast lobby into a luxurious, immersive environment. The client praised Tikanna’s ability to execute complex artistic customization with rigid engineering standards, delivering the project on time for the hotel’s grand opening.
